Mind Games by Jo Jo

Mind Games by Jo Jo combines Italo, disco, R&B and electro to create a much sought after jewel in the crown of the LA Discoteca label. The track is built around synths and pinned down by a solid bass line with the stardust of Jo Jo’s vocal on top. Massimo Monti and DJ Claudio Pisani are to thank for digging up this classic for this fresh reissue. Side A features the vocal version with the instrumental version on the flip.

My wife is called Jo. Actually she’s not my wife at all. Sorry about that. I *think* that’s her on the sleeve.   Anyway this is an Italo-disco classic probably from the ’80’s but I can’t be bothered to check. Musically it’s that tight lo-fi sound with cheesy synths and funky bass. The vocal plonked on top is quite extraordinary. Who recorded this? It sounds wonderfully terrible, as does the syn-drum solo. The tune though is rather good with a lovely aching chorus that reminds me of something from the ’80’s. On the flip you get an instrumental version.
