Nick Nicely first released 49 Cigars in 1980, as the B-side to the single Hilly Fields. But now the B-side gets promoted to the A-side of a 7" all of it's very own! Supporting it are two tracks from a newer album, one of which has been remixed by Nick himself. Grand space-pop released on the Fruits de Mer label.

- 49 Cigars by Nick Nicely
8/10 Clinton Staff review, 08 September 2015
It’s taken just the 35 years but Nick Nicely’s ace ‘49 Cigars’ has finally been promoted to A side status after spending its life in the shadow of its (admittedly even better) big brother ‘Hilly Fields’.
For the uninitiated, imagine Syd Barrett emerging from the wilderness in the early ‘80s with synths in tow. What a comeback that would have been. Anyway there was no need for him to do it as Nicely pretty much did it for him; Nicely is still making great music, as last years ‘Space of a Second’ proved, and the B sides contain a mixture of exclusive mixes of more recent material and a wig out live version of ‘49 Cigars’ which sounds more like the Bevis Frond than anything. Comes on vinyl in the exact colour of the lavender soap in my grandma's bathroom.
