Koova is, in this instance, the pseudonym of Gavin Pykerman. His day job is being one third of London Modular Alliance. This Is Not My Future features four tracks of exemplary electro. Side A recalls the genius of Kraftwerk, whilst the flip has production which recalls Stimulant and hands out a dose of ‘80s nostalgia.

Out on the binary label Central Processing Unit is this 12” of '80s synth arcade techno from a person called Gavin Pykerman, this time under the alias Koova on his break from co-running the London Modular Alliance. Modular, ooh no, this’ll sound like aimless electronic detritus, or so says the prevailing opinion from people who don’t understand synthesis. This is not that; if there are any modules making bleeps on here then Koova has done a good job taming them, the synth lines being highly old-skool, melodic and riffy. There’s a borderline silly, bouncy electro-funk feel to the whole thing that immediately gives the impression of sequenced Ataris and will definitely get a few punters doing the robot to your set. Wish I could recommend some other '80s groove that this is similar to but I just don’t know any. It’s a very fun release that’s even our fun-hating buffoon Ian loved shaking his grizzled gob to.
