Heathen by David Bowie

David Bowie reissue time! Heathen was his 2002 release and his 22nd album. He throws in a couple of covers to this one, including a nice version of Pixies ‘Cactus’. Heathen is understood to be one of the better late-period Bowie albums. The reissue is, of course on heavyweight 180g vinyl. On Friday Music.

8/10 Jack 10th August 2015

Bowie creates a foreboding, low, mellow, ominous, and totally original work here. Reminds me of both "Low" and "Station to Station" in that Bowie maintains a feel throughout the entire album, yet each song can stand on its own. These very moody songs seep into your consciousness like the best music can. They sound like kind of a mellow trip through the nine levels of hell maybe, but with Bowie as your tour guide that might not be so bad. I especially appreciated the resignation of the title track, or the defiance of the beaten-down in "Everyone Says 'Hi.'"
