This new 12” from Nathan Melja wastes no damn time at all, cutting straight in with the first track’s stern kick drum; a kick drum so low-pitched that it almost merges with the bassline. A.C.I. has three more tracks just as heavy up its sleeve as well, so watch yourselves. Edition of 300 on Black Opal.

- A.C.I. by Nathan Melja
8/10 Ant Staff review, 19 June 2015
Prior to ‘A.C.I’ I think Nathan Melja’s only other physical release is a 12” on Mister Saturday Night which is a good indication of what sort of vibe he’s on. That is; high quality underground modern house music.
‘Ludes’ has a swirling slightly disorientating sea-sick synth that suggests the altered state implied by the tracks title. It sounds like a conventional house track that’s done a massive line of ketamine and is struggling to keep it together.
‘Venasce’ is narcotic dancefloor soul with dreamy soulful keys/ Rhodes reminiscent of a DJ Sprinkles tune I can’t remember the name of. ‘Maria May With Me’ has the feel of a more lo-fi early Transmat production, then closing the EP is my personal highlight; the scuffed, trippy dubby techno of ‘Make Rekkurds’ reminding me of very early Surgeon stuff.
