Disco 2: A Further Fine Selection of Independent Disco, Modern Soul and Boogie 1976-80, to give it its lovely full title, is a premium collection of just that, compiled by the good sorts at Soul Jazz. Plenty of gorgeous material you might not have heard here. Released as two separate double LPs, or as a double CD set.

Soul Jazz just keep on trucking, the seemingly endless array of tracks to be excavated across a huge range of genres show now sign of drying up. Soul Jazz do this well though, and disco is something they have good form in.

That said the initial installment 'Disco' was solid if unspectacular, it didn't have enough variation across the collection for me. As such if you took the compilation in one sitting it became a little one dimensional. They seem to have corrected that here, yes its disco through and through but there is variation.

Paper Doll 'Get Down Boy' from the P&P vaults is more soulful, 'Cosmic Funk' by Mad Dog Fire Department is beefier, and hell funkier and more cosmic and pretty contemporary sounding. One for fans of Baldelli or the Idjut Boys. There is lots more to find on this comp, most of it rare, some from independent labels, some from well known, such as Salsoul. All in though a great listen.
