The seventh studio album from Californian metal-heads High On Fire, Luminiferous is all about riffs and riffs and more god damn riffs. Always a reliable outfit if you’re searching for headbanging catharsis, this heavy record does not disappoint. Out on CD and vinyl double LP from Century Media.

9/10 Customer review, 6th March 2017

On Luminiferous, High On Fire sound more polished than ever before, yet still retain the monstrous qualities that make them unique among the crowded genre. Even the fans of the previous albums should take note in the improvements made by the band, such as Matt Pike's expansion of his vocal range as evident on tracks "The Falconist" and "The Cave". Luminiferous is a crowning achievement in the career of High on Fire. They might not be on Relapse anymore, and they might not have the primitive vocals of the early 2000s, but they haven't rested on their laurels, as illustrated by the improvements of all members of the band on all musical fronts. There are ways to grow and evolve without selling out on what you started, and High On Fire must be laughing at Mastodon right about now.
