The soundtrack to Alejandro Jodorowsky’s masterpiece The Holy Mountain is suitably bizarre and amazing, almost as much so as the film itself. Jodorowsky put it together with the help of the legendary Don Cherry, and this issue of the music is a grand 2LP set with a beautiful sleeve and fresh liner note material.

- The Holy Mountain by Alejandro Jodorowsky
9/10 Andrew 19th June 2015
Wow, this has often been seen as the Holy Grail for soundtrack collectors and with good cause, a visually stunning film with a musical score as avant garde as the film itself, this was always going to be on wants lists. It is an archetypal Finders Keepers release really and a sign that far from the well running dry this label is just hitting its stride. Before you get to the music there are superb liner notes from The Finder Extraordinaire Andy Votel that reveal the story behind the music is almost as absorbing as the music itself.
Then the music, pretty incredible really, though like the film, perhaps not for the faint hearted. It is experimental, touching on jazz, psychedelia, rock, touches of pop, a pinch of folk and more besides, however despite that it retains enough hooks to draw you in. There are tough enough drums on some tracks for the the diggers, there is enough swing and funk for the slightly more casual listener, but without a doubt this is still a piece of out there adventurous music.
