It makes sense for Air to record a film soundtrack, really, and their soundtrack to Sofia Coppola's "The Virgin Suicides" is great. The album opens with the song "Playground Love" which is I think their best song. It's a perfect mix of lounge pop, electronica and '70s nostalgia. Like all good soundtracks this moves from the dramatic to the melancholic etc as the film requires. "Bathroom Girl" and "The Word 'Hurricane'" are Air doing their best Pink Floyd impressions. "Cemetery Party" has a menacing electronic beat that suggests a sense of foreboding but then a soft heavenly choir floats over the top. "Dark Messages" again is menacing piece of electronica with a '60s espionage thriller vibe brought to it by the use of a glockenspiel. "Dirty Trip" sounds like much of the music from "Moon Safari" and "High School Lover" is an instrumental reprise of "Playground Love". Good stuff.
