7/10 Clinton Staff review, 12 June 2015
The problem is that How To Dress Well's over emoting tends to destroy the lead track here 'Don't Say No' (that's not what the cast of Grange Hill said is it?). It's all too much like charty r&b and there are too many things happening. 'Out of Hand' proves this by stripping almost everything away but the clicky percussion and soothing bass with just a lovely murky and delayed vocal refrain providing a melodic counterpart. Comparisons to Burial and Balam Acab are obvious.
Flip it over and lessons haven't been learnt. 'Out of Hand' would be a nice track if it were stripped back. The vocal sample has been distorted to within an inch of its life and it simply hurts the ears. The track is far too busy by half. The final two tracks see Shlohmo lay off the accompaniments and the music is all the better for it. The final track 'Without' is what he should have been doing all along he's left space between the notes and the ear piercing samples are kept to a minimum. Now - a thousand lines before you get to go home Shlohmo....."Less is more".
