Viento De Las Montanas comes as a beautifully handmade CDr package, with photos that evoke the same gorgeously desolate landscape that the album does. Constructed from field recordings, instruments including harmonica, and a strong narrative sense, ~~^^^macheteoxidado^^^~~ have made a deeply atmospheric work. On Shimmering Moods.
7/10 Clinton Staff review, 10 June 2015
In order to save Laurie’s sanity I have taken it on myself to review one of the three Shimmering Moods titles in this week. The label basically does what it says on the tin with a series of limited handmade CDs containing different varieties of textured ambience. Fans of the Hibernate and Home Normal labels need to get involved in this. This latest release from the impossible to pronounce or google ~~^^^macheteoxidado^^^~~ has billowing slightly metallic clouds of ambience which on the first track ‘...’ (I know, I know) contains a lonesome and scattered harmonica part.
Unusually for this type of album you get 15 different pieces generally weighing in under the four minute mark - this gives the album a nice and varied feel yet the shorter than usual tracks don’t disrupt the flow. The album has a harsher edge than some of the more wishy washy ambience I’ve heard over the last few years with field recordings and slightly industrial sounding textures but it’s still soothing in the extreme.
