The Black Death by When

Reissue LP on Ideologic Organ. Before joining Jester Records and putting out his bizarre Tom Waits flavoured psychedelia on albums like The Lobster Boys When released this….. It’s a single long dark soundscape that has minor fluttering of musicality. It is based around SVARTEDAUEN, a book of drawings by Norwegian artist Theodor Kittelsen that have mainly been used by black metal artists such as Burzum.

It is clear to see why this has been an inspiration to many Norwegian black metal artists according to the information provided - a gothic, at points hellish, soundscape over two parts which really brings visions of plague raging through a people to the fore. Interesting and absorbing - bought out of curiosity and was not disappointed. Vinyl packaging is beautifully designed and inclusion of illustrative booklet a lovely addition. A great price for a curious addition to the collection, very much recommended.
