The Sun God, aka Chicago based DJ/producer Jamal Moss (Mathematics recordings) returns to radical musical curiosities label Cejero with ‘The Sun God And The Myth Lives On Trio’. The tracks are punchy but meditative electro compositions built from the warm sounds of classic vintage technology.
8/10 Ant Staff review, 19 June 2015
Chicago’s Jamal Moss makes an appearance on Denmark’s Cejero label under his The Sun God alias with two cosmic, psychedelic warehouse bangers. First up is the slow grind of ‘Cosmic Chords One’, recorded live in Copenhagen and comprised of minimal percussion, acidic bassline, stuttering claps and free flowing jazzy chords, building until the synths get all gnarly.
‘Cosmic Chords Two’ is a more uptempo studio recording with swirling synth and dense, raw drum machine work building into an ecstatic frenzy before transforming into what I can only describe as jackin’ space jazz, comparable I suppose to an unpolished Underground Resistance jazzy production but with a looser free jazz/ impov approach. Both tracks have that very distinctive Jamal Moss sound and are pretty much what you would imagine his tracks are like when described in the media as being like Sun Ra meets Ron Hardy. Edition of 475 copies.
