Le Tigre were a political pop trio led by chief Riot Grrrl Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill, Julie Ruin). Their eponymous debut was originally released in 1999 and is now reissued on vinyl. The fusion of politically charged feminism and angry pop has made this a classic. This album contains arguably their best moment with the opening track, Deceptacon.

Following the break-up of Bikini Kill, head Riot Grrrl, Kathleen Hannah embarked on recording songs alone in her bedroom. The result was the Julie Ruin project. After finding a band to take those songs on the road, Le Tigre were born. Their debut album is recorded using cheap electronic equipment and samplers. Whilst the ferocity of Bikini Kill may seem here to have been diluted and sweetened at first, but it really isn't the case as the feminist lyrics and the vocal delivery are still vital. The blistering and throat-tearing "Deceptacon" kicks things off in fine style whilst "What's Ya Take On Cassavetes" discusses the good and bad of the film directors life. Le Tigre's best work.
