Sumac might even be called a supergroup, if people are still using that phrase: the band contains members of ISIS, Russian Circles and Baptists. The Deal is a nice and heavy one, lingering lovingly on thick guitar crunch. This was released on CD already, but this vinyl edition is a deluxe double vinyl set limited to 800 copies only,

9/10 Customer review, 4th March 2017

Aaron Turner has kept busy since the demise of Isis, and this may be his best project yet. Joined by Brian Cook of Russian Circles on bass and Nick Yachyshyn on drums, this is a lithe unit with lots of space. While Cook and Yachyshyn play superbly, it may be space that is the indispensable accompaniment to Turner's guitar. The first and last numbers are instrumental. "Spectral Gold" sets a serious, searching mood for the album. The closer, "Radiance of Being," is a guitar solo, reverberating in the silence and evoking spiritual wonder. The four central songs are just f'ing brutal as ever and Turner's lyrics and hoarse metal vocals is just the icing on the cake. The poetry is harsh and elemental, reminding me of Neurosis.
