I-f’s Test Pilot Volume 1 was first released back in 1996, but if you missed out then, don’t worry, a remastered reissue has been pressed up. This EP follows the in-my-view-excellent format of three tracks tooled for the dancefloor and one piece of strange, disquieting oddness. 12” on Viewlexx.

8/10 Laurie Staff review, 06 May 2015

Back to the primal for I-f’s Viewlexx imprint, this time round a reissue of rowdy EP Test Pilot Volume 1, originally released back in ‘96. It looks like he’s ditched the split personality of the original and unified his tunes under the loose I-f banner, remastering the apparent club bangers and “sinister experiment” at A2.

He’s not wrong - ‘Shadow of the Clown’ is exactly as you imagine clowns in your head - Mr Bungle on a class A binge in a haunted house. Creepy melodies unfold and contort atop a growling drone, a monolithic spectre after the polyrhythmic over-the-top madness that consumes the first track. Over to the B, syncopated stabby basses jar against classic drum machines not intent on infiltrating your dreams, but insisting that you dance. Headphones and 1pm only permit a headbob so that’ll have to do, but there’s irresistible old-school techno DJ material here.
