The latest slice of PAN delight is the debut release of a new project: the album is sensibly titled 1. Lifted are an improvising crew, working with electronics and sometimes dipping into technoish and/or ambient territory, but always informed by a jazz sensibility. A smooth but unusual sound that is hard to pin down.

7/10 Ant Staff review, 01 May 2015
Lifted is Matt Papich (AKA Co La) and Beautiful Swimmers’ Max D with help from Jordan GCZ (Juju & Jordash) and Italian ambient producer Gigi Masin. ‘1’ involves collaborative improvisation with an electronic palette most commonly locked to a grid. It’s interesting to hear this more free, fluid approach which yields pleasing results that mutate in and out of glitched up house, jazz laced shimmering electronica, ambient, piano, soulful Detroit-ish techno etc.
They’ve most definitely got their shit together these guys, as this could easily have been a mess with so many elements. If you’re familiar with the artists involved it’s possible to detect their individual input, leaving each other plenty of space to work their magic. The first track is sorta like a premature crescendo with each artist announcing their arrival, it gives the impression the rest of the album could be quite intense and cluttered but that’s not the case at all.
Some lovely moments that remind me of everything from Moritz von Oswald Trio, SND, Brian Eno, Moodymann, Move D etc. Like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.
