Man Power, formerly known only through primarily club-focused singles and 12”s, here turns in a full length album. The palette is broader here, swirling sounds and approaches into a ‘proper album’ form, where themes and stylistic shifts can be traced across the whole. Out on Correspondant.

Man Power has largely been known for his more club focused recorded output up to now - check the superb 'Flaccid Tracks' ep for a fine example of this. With this album, however he has stepped away from the dance floor (not entirely but broadly) to produce a mature, varied record of maturity and durability. There is clearly an electronic pulse that reminds you of his house and disco passions, but it is tempered with a refined, thoughtful approach. 2nd track boys beware could be a Carpenter tune, its synths suggesting a slight menace beneath the beat.
'Forget To Remember' is a cracking tune, upbeat enough for a discerning dancefloor, but with enough depth for home listening or morning after reflections, it put me in mind of early Orbital. 'Hunting Swan' is a downtempo contemplative track, nice keys providing a human balance against the electronics. 'Inside' uses strings of life keys over a beatless backdrop to somehow create feelings of euphoria and thoughtfulness simultaneously. 'Tofu Ist Der Teufel' reminds us of Man Powers house pedigree though, one of a couple of ckub ready tracks.
Overall a great album, one that unlike many by producers better known for their singles hangs together as a coherent work.
