This is a really solid package of remixes of the French disco legend, Cerrone. His is a name that seems to pop up every now and then whenever disco is deemed fashionable. Thanks to Daft Punks work in excavating that unheard of producer Nile Rodgers (at least if you believe some of the media anyway) everyone is on the look out for the next 'lost' genius. Well Cerrone seems to fit the bill, as with Nile, hardly obscure, plenty of accessible faintly familiar records and nothing too controversial. There have been repackaged releases, remixes and co-productions with contemporary house producers before, however this set actually looks thoughtfully compiled.
Credible remixers, all who have long standing associations with disco and whose works have been influenced by Cerrone or similar acts. Dimitri's remix of Love In 'C' Minor is lovely, taking a fairly mellow rework route, this is perfect summer listening. The Reflex revision of 'Hooked On You' is anotger sterling effort, stripping away any whiff of cheese, turning in an excellent deep house disco chugger of a track.
Elsewhere you find remixes from heavyweights such as Kevin Saunderson and the late Frankie Knuckles rubbing shoulders with efforts from the disco cognoscenti such as Sacha Mambo and Joey Negro. All in 10 tracks across 2 discs that should be all you need to get a party going. Free cd too!
