English new wave band The Monochrome set themselves apart from the sombre tones of post punk played by many of their late seventies and early eighties contemporaries through their dry wits and clean pop sensibilities. ‘The Lost Weekend’ documents the bands tenure at Blanco Y Negro records.

- The Lost Weekend by The Monochrome Set
9/10 Jack 18th July 2016
This album touches on all the things that the Monochrome do best; the twangy guitars and ambitious instrumentals combined with fun and inventive melodies and songs. Probably not the kind of thing most people could pull off, the reason that it works so well in this case is that Bid writes with such tremendous wit and an apparently indestructible droll sense of humour - embellished with the occasional breath-taking poetic flourish. Arguably their best. Slick production, great songs, not a bad one here.
