Tigercats are a party band comprised of singer/guitarist Duncan Barrett, his brother Giles on bass, Laura Kovic on keyboards and vocals, Jonny Evans on drums and Paul Rains (Allo Darlin’) on guitar. ‘Sleeping In The Backseat’ is a lovingly crafted, record of sophisticated pop songs with contagious hooks and danceable rhythms, executed with a great abundance of personality and style.
7/10 Clinton Staff review, 10 April 2015
I hate parties me. That's why I like Tigercats best when they are miserable - their party type songs just make me want to thump someone. Here they are and luckily for me they are in misery mood on a mid tempo song which drifts along longingly and the male and female vocalists harmonies whilst presumably not looking anywhere near each others direction. It's nice and wan and will appeal to fans of 'Allo Darlin' or people who find Belle and Sebastian just not quite twee enough.
The B side is quite enjoyable possibly because it sounds like it was recorded at the bottom of a well. The guitars are nice and taut, the drums pound along nicely, the singer can't sing but at least he can't sing sparingly. This is quite experimental in nature and whether there's some dust on the stylus I'm not sure but it has a grimey fuzzy feel.
