Due for release on the 8th June 2015, ‘Wild Nights’ is the new album release from Manchester four piece PINS. ‘Too Little Too Late’ will be the first single release from the album, due out on 7” on the 30th of March and if it’s relentlessly aggro, primitive rhythms, fuzzed-out crashing guitars, heavy melodic basslines and enticing vocals are anything to go by then ‘Wild Nights’ promises to be a powerful statement and awesome angry party record.

Breezing along on the jangle pop winds from the ever-so-slightly South this week are Pins, a Manchester-based quartet who make very simple indie pop songs, seemingly in their sleep. ‘Wild Nights’ is the kind of record that’s so melodically straightened out and finely calibrated that you could probably listen to it the same way you breathe air: endlessly and obliviously.
‘Wild Nights’ is jangle pop and it’s most basic: the guitars are nimble and the band riff in brief pockets of their songs, mostly reverent to their rhythm section pulling them back towards no frills choruses made out of a repeated mantra and a good vocal harmony or two. Faith Holgate’s voice takes some of the dreaminess out of the band’s sound -- which is down to their production and sparsely stylised lyricism -- as she careers off in a different direction from the band on “Young Girls” and “Oh “Lord”, her vocals recalling a feverish Courtney Barnett or Japandroids’ Brian King.
Pins’ best moments as a band are when they momentarily forget about their structural duties and do something like the end of “Dazed By You”, where they very briefly thrash through their outro full pelt, forgetting the slow builds and crystal-clear verse-chorus route. It’s a rare treat, and mostly we’re treated to the more finely traced pop of “Got It Bad” -- bold production, slow melodic articulation and sparkling guitars that remind us of jangle’s long legacy. ‘Wild Nights’ is good, but Pins sound like they could be sick punks, too.
