Produced by the legendary Ross Robinson (The Cure), ‘My Dreams Dictate My Reality’ is singer songwriter Soko’s follow up to her melancholic folk album debut ‘I Thought I Was An Alien’. The album includes two hypnotic collaborative tracks (‘Monster Love’ and ‘Lovetrap’) with lo-fi troubadour Ariel Pink.
6/10 Clinton Staff review, 20 March 2015
Soko appeared on Ariel Pink’s latest album ‘Pom Pom’ but I wouldn’t hold that against her. She’s had 11.5 million people view a previous video. How many have you had? Yeah.
What all this success has allowed her to do is to employ The Cure producer Ross Robinson and to make an album which sounds kind of like the time Pat Benatar collab’d with Echo and the Bunnymen. It’s full of reverby 80’s pop and rawk chick vocals. On ‘Ocean of Tears’ is as catchy as anything on the first Best Coast album but by track 4 its Siouxie’s me into oblivion and so I haven't even got as far as the bit Ariel Pink makes his appearance. Shame.
