They are not altogether bad the Vaccines are they? There are certainly worse crimes than writing insanely catchy pop tunes. This latest offering is the first thing to come from their upcoming album which is due in May. That's a long time to wait so get your fix now. The tune sorta sounds like what I imagine the Drums wish they sounded like - a compressed slab of post-Strokes indie. It's produced by Dave Fridmann (F'Lips, MRev etc) but I couldn't tell as it doesn't have that big drum sound.

- Handsome by The Vaccines
6/10 Sam Steele 4th February 2016
The Vaccines are known for their sweet and sugary burst of pop, and, looking at the track length alone, one knows that they can expect much of the same with 'Handsome'. Basically a three chord wonder, it is short, sweet and certainly sugary, but that's not to say it's completely just a safe step for the four piece. Featuring some nice modern production, as opposed to the over-trendy reverb-drenched stylings on their first LP and their stripped back rawness on their second, it's a step into the digital, with distorted drums pounding against some interlocked synth-guitar bass. Unfortunately, their album didn't deliver the same pulse of excitement as the first single, so even more reason to savour perhaps the last drop of energy the Vaccines had left in them.
Oh, and it's on orange vinyl too. Funky.
