Progressing confidently from their classic rock origins, Alabama Shakes deliver a crisp and funky album in the form of Sound & Color. Recorded in Nashville, they retain that Southern personality whilst clearly spending more time on the minutiae of songwriting. Out on 2LP ltd clear vinyl, 2LP vinyl and CD from Rough Trade.

8/10 Cai Sumption Customer review, 11th May 2015

This new offering from Alabama Shakes is a huge improvement on their previous effort 'Boys & Girls'. On this record Alabama Shakes boasts better production, performances and most importantly songs. As well as this, 'Sound & Colour' features more of a stylistic shift from its predecessor, pushing the band into more of a soulful direction, suiting the singing style of vocalist Brittany Howard perfectly. This record does still retain the vintage aesthetic of the Alabama Shakes I grew to love on 'Boys & Girls', but perhaps frees itself a little more from the looming overshadowing of their influences.
