No nonsense house cuts from Royal Crown Of Sweden. A new alias for Huerco S., this release sees the Kansas-based producer work on a linear scale gradually throwing bits and bobs into the mix like new scenery on a long drive. The R.E.G.A.L.I.E.R. EP is compelling and hypnotic whilst never reaching too high above its limits. Out on vinyl 12” from Proibito.

Can anyone answer me a question? Why out of all musics are instrumental house and techno 12”’s the worst ones for not labelling the speed of the record? Is it a kind of badge of honour for DJ’s to just know what speed something goes at? Anyway I plumped for 33rpm and a quick glance at Youtube has suggested I was right.

This alias of Kansas producer Huerco C is an absolutely gorgeous slab of woozy slow-mo house. Opener ‘Vanern’ is a hazy dream like piece which comes very close to doing for house what Gas has done for techno. Distorting and muting the elements so it sort of sounds like the music is coming up through the floorboards. ‘Malaren’ emerges out of the murk with some skittery rhythms and a lovely repeated riff.

The slowed down nature of the music creates a dreamy soundscape perfect for late night listening, the only time the record even acknowledges the dance-floor seems to be on closer ‘Soft Things' which introduces a propulsive rhythm and murky soulful vocals yet even here the music flanges in and out as if someone is opening and closing the door to the club. Fantastic stuff.
