Right, it's time to get it together with Andrew Broder. Hostage Holding Today's Newspaper are the far out excursions from the Fog man. This is a free jam, with Broder going to town and doing what he does best, which is putting all sorts in a pot and making a deliciously jagged & jarring yet warm stew from whatever sonic matter he fancies. This one is on 5, yes FIVE, cassette tapes to capture the full experience and is being put out on Brian Records.

He’s a one that Andrew Broder isn’t he? With previous records on Anticon as Fog, the boy has history. The latest we heard he was releasing on Baro (alongside Bracken and Odd Nosdam) but this 5 cassette set is something else. Released on the highly collectible Brian Records, it’s a veritable feast of experimental collages made using effects pedals and turntables.
It’s all very stream of consciousness with jazz flecked samples being hurled into the mix at random intervals, the music lurches, swaying this and that like weary commuter navigating the top deck of a lolling night bus. It’s turntablism in effect but where time is no limit. The pieces stretch out indefinitely and this freedom expression can create some marvellous musical ideas. It’s going to take you the best part of a day to listen to so get the snax in, make sure you’ve got enough batteries for the tape player and get lost in Broder’s wildly unusual and imaginative world.
