Indie band! 7” single by an indie band! Hooton Tennis Club have all your favourite indie band tropes firmly in place: three white dudes with guitars and another one playing drums. And some singing is in the mix too, obviously. The Jasper / Standing Knees double A side is released courtesy of Heavenly.

8/10 Clinton Staff review, 19 February 2015

This is a fantabulous single from the increasingly reliable Heavenly label. Merseysiders Hooton Tennis Club have come up with one of those sure-to-be-future-classic or sure-to-be-lost gem singles depending on which way their luck goes. Already blasting out of 6 Music on a regular basis, the single is a breezy piece of pure-pop melodicism that marries the mellow melodies of Teenage Fanclub with the slacker rock insouciance of Pavement. It’s brilliant, insanely catchy and crunchily produced by Bill Ryder Jones. ‘Standing Knees’ overleaf suggest that this ain’t no fluke. Less catchy than the A side, its shambling Rod Stewart meets Dinosaur Jr rawness suggests that this lot could be a blast when viewed live ‘in concert’.
