The 4th volume of the Dark Acid series dredges 4 tracks from the murky, sweaty depths of acid house and techno so you don’t have to get your ears too dirty. The opener from Khotin keeps the acid to a subtle squelch from 303-esque bass box, the main mood being drifting pads, soft, minimal beats and some echoing speech off in the distance somewhere. Lovely start, not too intense, no acid ‘middle finger’ so far. The second pumps up the pace, beginning as reverbed as the last until a duet of synth arps fiddle about atop a totally mad 808 beat - ambientish ‘Ultra Acid’ for sure from Varg. A low-slung groove from London’s Kid Who follows, featuring growling basses and occasionally shrieking synth bits, a nice change of pace and tone.
Finally, THERE IT IS, the crazy acidic finale comes in the form of Terminator’s, er, ‘Terminator’, a proper primetime 130bpm acid jam that cycles through various dystopian dancefloor futures. A great, wide selection of acid-related things; highly recommended.
