Comet Gain return and pour us a shot of twee with Fingerprint Ritual, an EP of four new tracks, including the overwrought epic "Breaking Open The Head Part 2 (The Eye-Shaped Room)", which runs at eleven minutes and continues the narrative weaved in the song's first part. Beyond that there's fuzz, laughs, tears and plenty of your favourite DIY nonsense.

- Fingerprint Ritual by Comet Gain
Gotta hand it to David Christian and his Comet Gain. Determined to carry on despite a personnel turnover of near The Fall proportions. The phrase “Always different, always the same” could as easily apply to them. Kind of like a Brit Anton Newcombe, he ploughs a psych-influenced furrow. Opener ‘Breaking Open the Head Part 2’ is as close as anything gets to the 1960s, influenced by the drone-folk of BJM with the strange wandering discordance of mid '80s Television Personalities hidden within its DNA.
To my utter confusion, the artwork is slightly muddled, so you need to turn over for the remaining tracks -- ‘That Lucifer Summer’ an organ drenched piece of ? and the Mysterions style pop/psych, ‘To the City’s Core’ a gritty piece of flying psych with angry vocals and the closing wig out ‘The Obsolete Significant Dignified’ which again recalls BJM, The Seeds and any number of '60s dreamers. More psychy than some of their previous offerings, this is a tough and confident addition to their catalogue.
