Interesting release here. Cornershop have elected to take their debut album Hold On It Hurts, from way back in 1993, and remake it for 2015. But! You will notice that this album is titled Hold On It's Easy, which signifies that the style of these versions is a lot smoother, a lot more orchestral: a lot ‘easier’ (according to dominant assumptions about music anyway).

Apart from the novelty of hearing Cornershop’s debut album ‘Hold On It Hurts’ re-worked in an Easy Listening style. I’m not totally sure what listeners are to get from this latest offering from the long running eccentrics. I remember absolutely hating Cornershop when they first arrived on the scene. I thought they were rubbish back then but over the years I’ve developed a grudging respect for them - they just do what the hell they like don’t they? And I like that.
I’m sure anyone who is familiar with their debut will have lots more fun than me with this spotting how the songs have been re-arranged and re-worked. To me it sounds like pleasant loungey jazz throughout, the sort of thing you can get pretty easily by trawling a charity shop for Easy Listening records. Any Bacharach or Herb Alpert record will do. It’s nice and summery packed full of parping horns and sweeping strings and probably great to put on whilst sipping a cocktail in the sun lounge in summer. It’s clever too - and let's face it, its a mad thing to do.
There’s not a great deal of point to it but there again what’s the point in anything?
