Available on CD or 180 gram 12” vinyl. Brazil born, Boston based composer Ricardo Donoso’s dark ambient debut Deterrence as released on extremely limited (80 copies only!) cassette in 2010. Belonging somewhere between Deaf Center and Kreng it’s getting a much needed wider release through Denovali Records.

Last one, then I can watch The Kingdom. I was going to go out but it's dressing gown and headphones Friday for Baby Bri-Bri as it looks well grey pants out there.
I've heard some of this dark ambient legend's stuff before but not in the intimate settings I demand from my cavernous, glacial moan and grumble. This chap sort of links Lustmord, Deaf Center, Thomas Koner's legendary "frostbitten" trilogy and the breathtaking "Polar Frequencies" of Biosphere and HIA on his rather scarce début release 'Deterrence'
Back in t' day it was stupidly released as a cassette for less than one point of a percent of the people who actually needed to hear it. Some of the post rock gear on Denovali bores me a little but I can guarantee this ominous edge-of--icy-abyss style ambient master-work is a genuinely remarkable piece of sonic sculpture so that label are my heroes for today just for re-issuing it. Shifting tension, tangible presence, megalithic peals of thunderous alien rumbling and the sound of distant bombs in a chasm and the thrill as digital rocks are churned through your mind's eye. There's some lovely dream-like passages too amongst all the volcanic judder, crazy acoustics, sweet fuzz and granular synthesis. I would recommend huge speakers, an empty art gallery or very good headphones for this five track stunner.
