There's a lot of 7" incoming from bombastic pop star Marina and her Diamonds, all of which waits in thrall of her upcoming third record, Froot. Pretty great album name -- sounds like the word foot, and also the word root, which is neat, I guess? Immortal / I'm A Ruin is the second in the series, following on from a 7" release of the record's title track.

Not sure what the deal is with these Marina and the Diamonds singles but we’re selling shite loads of the things. Let’s take a listen and try to find out why.
Well David Kosten (Bat For Lashes etc) is in the producers chair so it has a glacial electronic feel - the sort of confident sound made by a man who knows what he’s doing and is paid handsomely for doing it. Marina’s vocals are an odd breed of fractured English - her pronunciation is odd but this doesn’t spoil my enjoyment of “Immortal’ a mid paced ballad which if you take away the futurist electronics and add men to the equation would sound like one of Take That’s more emotional ballads. In fact Marina’s vocal and the otherworldly production tends to save this from blandness but overall it’s not bad as pop goes.
Fans of tight spindles will be pleased to learn that the record is a fecker to get on and off the player.
