12" vinyl reissue limited to 500 copies on Doxy. Bernard Herrmann scored seven films for Hitchcock including Vertigo and North by Northwest, but probably by far his most poignant and scarring work was on 1960’s Psycho. You never forget the sound of those stabbing (yes, that was intentional) violins and descending chords that were the triggers to that most famous of scenes, but the rest of it plays out the sheer atmospheric turmoil of the film, showing how much difference a good score can make.
