- Snowflake by The Humble Bee & Players

Former Hood and Remote Viewer man Craig Tattersall is a one man cottage industry what with the painfully limited edition releases on his Cotton Goods imprint and as his releases as The Humble Bee (3 ish in the last year or so). This might be one of the most exciting of the lot - a conceptual album featuring a whole host of players based around the humble snowflake.
Tattersall researched snowflakes and devised a set of rules for the musicians to adhere to. He’s an enterprising sort. The result is two records in one - a CD of the original compositions featuring talented chaps Bill Seaman and Danny Norbury amongst others and on the vinyl are Tattersall’s re-workings. I’ve been listening to the vinyl over lunch (cheese sandwiches and home-made soup since you ask) and the music is mesmerisingly beautiful. Full of ghostly drones, eerie vocals and neo-classical strings ,its graininess hints at Grouper-like ghost-folk but the pieces are more stretched and ambient bringing to mind A Winged Victory for the Sullen. Somehow, the music succeeds in evoking snowfall, quiet, meditative and as relaxing as sitting clutching at a radiator watching the snow slowly fall outside.
