Delroy Edwards' L.A. Club Resource label offer up this vinylization of Shawty Pimp feat. Red Dog's 1995 demo cassette 'Comin' Real Wit' It', offering a glimpse into a bygone era of of regional rap music. If terms like "Trill" "Drank" and "Lean" mean anything to you then you're probably aware that the region in this case is Memphis. The sleeve states "This is 100% official underground shit" and really it doesn't get more underground than this -- pre crunk success and all that.

The production is lo-fi but perfectly suited to the southern drawl relaying tales of pimping and so on. Shawty Pimp's vocal is fairly soft and gentle, seemingly at odds with the gangster bravado of his lyrics yet gels perfectly with the grainy soul samples, codeine laced beats and Southern take on G Funk. I think a lot of folk would think this is pretty comedy actually but even though I find it kinda amusing I really dig the slow laid back vibes and If I close my eyes I could be cruising in a low rider under bluer skies, puffin' on a blunt.
