Some calming merriment from Yellow6. Merry6mas 2014 is this years installment of searching yuletide vibrations. He creates a multitude of soundscapes based around the guitar and a bucket load of effects - full of careful melodies, drones, reverb and subtle shifts. It's like a stripped down one man space-post-rock-ambient guitar band. Out on CD from Silber.
Ltd CD on Silber. Edition of 100 copies in hand-stamped card sleeve with 16-page booklet.

Its the most wonderful time of the year. And how do we know because I’ve not heard it mentioned anywhere? Because the Yellow 6 ‘Merry 6Mas’ CD is out that's why!
Ambient guitar experimenter Jon Attwood has been releasing these CDs for 16 years now and has become as ubiquitous as holly, ivy, tinsel, and all that stuff. As regular and reliable as the Coca Cola lorry squeezing its way down ill-fitting English streets.
Anyway, these CDs usually provide a home for odds and ends that haven’t found their way onto his regular albums. These have become less and less frequent, unfortunately, to the point that if you want new Yellow 6 material then the 6mas CDs are where to get it.
As ever with Yellow 6 material I forget all about it until I listen to it each yuletide when I’m struck by the realisation that this is absolutely mother-feckingly beautiful. The first three tracks are prime examples of what he is good at. Evocative melancholic treated guitar instrumentals that evoke late night journeys across Northern hills, sodium lights twinkling in the distance. The sleeve notes mention “drone 2”’s similarity to La Bradford and yes this is the closest comparison. The piece builds slowly with perfect crystalline guitar parts layered on top of each other. The album also contains live tracks recorded at his recent show at Bradford Fuse which I shamefacedly admit to missing having been sat nearby arguing with my girlfriend. She stormed off. I missed the show but now by the wonders of recorded technology here they are in the palm of my hand. Wish I’d been there.
Lovely packaging on this too with fold out, hand stamped sleeve and lovely booklet with sleeve notes and photos. Merry 6mas everyone.
