Unknown Memory by Yung Lean

Melancholic hip-hop with a leftfield twist from eighteen year old Yung Lean. Debut album Unknown Memory blends off-kilter autotuning and sombre synths, all wrapped up in a distinctly digital aesthetic that could have only come out of the Youtube generation. Dark as a Swedish winter.

Lots of people have no clue what to think of when they first hear Yung Lean's music. I know I sure as hell didn't. But now I'm in love and I see him as one of the most unique and clever musicians of today. It's difficult to review individual songs, as they are really all meant to be listened to side-by-side. As a whole: fresh, interesting instrumentals accompanied with lyrics boasting an almost inhuman rhythm to them (reminds me of a robot) is such a unique and incredible thing that Yung Lean definitely puts on a well-deserved pedestal in this album.
