Sonic Sunset splits the difference between chilling ambient soundscapes and propulsive, snarling rhythms that persuade you away from the droning surface. It serves as proof that Model 500 were able to seamlessly marry these two sounds in a way no other artist could quite perfect, letting songs build and climax in a static position. It's beautiful and naturalistic in sound, but it makes the listener impatient, pining for the moment the sustained synths give way to the beats.

- Sonic Sunset by Model 500
8/10 Andrew 20th December 2014
A hugely rewarding listen, don't be put off by the apparent brevity of this as an album, whilst just 5 tracks this runs not far short of a hour. 3 versions of Sonic Sunset may appear to be extravagant, but there really is no way any one version could have been cut. Juan Atkins is the master of blending the beautiful with the machine. These tracks are awash with emotive synths, ambient textures and soul, but the propulsive machine funk of classic detroit techno is always there, making this a release worthy of the dancefloor as well as eyes closed headphone escapism.
Neptune and I Wanna Be There add to the package, making this an extremely worthy purchase for fans of deep house, techno, ambient electronica and just damn good music.
