Antemasque’s debut album is a must-have for fans of At the Drive-In and the Mars Volta. Featuring Flea on bass, the album is packed full of energy as we have come to expect from any of the various TMV-member side projects. Available online only briefly, this is your chance to own the hi-fi vinyl release!

7/10 Steven Holland Customer review, 28th January 2015

A simple and no strings attached return for The Mars Volta/At the Drive-In masterminds Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. Despite the more garage rock orientated style heard on this, their debut album, hints of both their previous collaborations are what drive the energetic, remarkably catchy and much heralded return to the studio for these 2 legends of modern rock. The cryptic verses of Cedric's lyrics and heavy jangling of Omar's guitar playing, fused with the innovation and blending of styles similar to Mars Volta records (subtly dropped in to the mix) are enough to satisfy fans of either bands.

The very Led Zeppelin-ish acoustic piece "Drown All Your Witches" adds a little break in the rapid pulse of the record, but the relentless assault of in-your-face guitars and funky bass lines (played by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers own Flea) on top of a blistering drum track and the unmistakable wails of Cedric Zavala are what makes it such a furious and charismatic piece of work for Antemasque. Probably more suited to At the Drive-In fans than Mars Volta aficionados, but well worth a go if you like your rock to be honest and flavourful.
