A Highland tantrum from The Amazing Snakeheads. Dripping with contempt, Can't Let You Go is a deluge of literal monosyllabic rage about how they just cannot seem to let this person go. Drenched in booze, fags, loud guitars, drums and shouting. I knew Limmy was angry, but now he’s bloody livid. Out on 7" vinyl from Domino.
6/10 Clinton Staff review, 26 November 2014
Its been a funny year for Domino. You wonder if they are ever going to find a new flagship band if they keep signing backstreet bluesy pub rockers with limited appeal. The Amazing Snakeheads would sound great in a terrifying pub in Glasgow, the sort where you’d get your face smashed in just for having the nerve to possess a full set of teeth. They are grimy, grungy and very Scottish. As ‘Can’t Let You Go’ proves though, they can be as terrifying as they like but until they get some memorable tunes, those backstreet boozers will be where they stay.
The B side is on 33rpm and is like a drunken Scottish Tom Waits fronting the Birthday Party. They just don’t have that extra something that would take them beyond being a Scottish novelty. Words that may come back to haunt me if I ever bumped into them on a dark night.
