Heavy mathy noises from Iepi. New WR starts at 90 mph and does not really let up. The Locust-esque riffage and frantic drumming that boarders on demonic disco at times are tied together in a spazzy fashion. There are some more melodic moments but they are few and far between. This 12" vinyl is out on Aloud Records.

Here we have a debut mini-LP from Catalonian instrumental rock trio Iepi, a whirlwind of wacky, galloping noise-prog which takes its cues from the jagged repeato chaos of bands like That Fucking Tank (with whom they have toured) and Oxes, but attack that sound with a breakneck velocity and violence that's more from the high-paced noise-rock school of Arab on Radar or Lightning Bolt, riding the grooves with devastatingly sharp, punchy precision.
It makes for an exhilarating and frankly exhausting listen. Each of the seven tracks has the name of a person, and each blast past in a rush of adrenalised fuzz guitar scree, and hypnotic hyperspeed rhythms section grooves which clank and batter their way through anything in their path like an out of control juggernaut. Someone in the office was comparing them to The Locust but this is far more groove-focused and less obnoxiously choppy and chaotic to my ears, plus there's no annoying vocals getting in the way of those pummelling riffs. Right up my street, this. If you like harsh, fast and repetitive instrumental rock you should investigate immediately.
