7/10 Ian Staff review, 19 November 2014

Here’s a cute little compilation on Kooky Records for all you twitchers out there.  This collection of songs is different artists and their interpretation of the same nightingale birdsong recorded by Phil Cleaver at Glapthorn Cow Pastures. Varying styles are produced here including a minimal piano piece from John Foxx, plonky synth ambience from Slipstream and even Robert Wyatt-esque experimental pop courtesy of Woodcraft Folk. Windy And Carl slip in quite comfortably with their typical brand of dreamy drone-folk that fits perfectly with the twittering nightingale in the background.

It’s all a bit new-age in places but it’s an interesting concept all the same and I am finding myself gravitating towards the artists that I know well like John Foxx, Windy and Carl and Andrew Liles. The other tracks however seem to pass me by and maybe need a few listens before they sink in, the birdsong is beautiful and make you feel all autumnal and at one with nature and with some great artists giving their all to this project it’s a worthy little compilation for your ever-growing CD shelves.
