Untitled by Beau Wanzer

Electronic polymath Beau Wanzer dabbles in every possible world conceivable, making music that's abrasive as well as reflective, uncompromisingly bizarre and smoothly-sailed. His debut record comes from recordings made between 2002 and 2008, spanning six years of musical content. It's self-titled, genre-hopping and rather DIY.

I've been hoovering up this guy’s releases since he emerged on the Russian Torrent Versions label in 2013. His stuff seems to stand out amongst the onslaught of techno releases simply because it’s pretty darn weird. This his debut album is a revelation as it collects archive tracks which date back as far as 2002 -- so it took him eleven years to release the first Beau Wanzer material but stuff as part of Streetwalker and Mutant Beat Dance appeared a few years earlier.

‘Untitled’ traverses techno, electro, EBM, wave, minimal-synth etc. and beyond, all cut with a raw no nonsense production sound and scattered with deranged vocals. A few tracks feel like they could have been salvaged from some obscure European 80’s post-punk cassette. Peculiar, intriguing and occasionally danceable it’s the grubby sound of man and hardware getting super freaky laced with some warped black humour.
