Push Barman To Open Old Wounds by Belle and Sebastian

'Push Barman To Open Old Wounds' was originally released in 2005, compiling twenty five twee-as-you-like tunes from Belle and Sebatian's early singles and EPs, from 1997's 'Dog On Wheels' to 2001's 'I'm Waking Up To Us'. It includes "The State I Am In", which would later appear on their debut record 'Tigermilk', but for the most part these are rare standalone Belle and Sebastian tunes.

I keep waiting to be disappointed by a Belle and Sebastian album... but it hasn't happened yet. This may not be a "proper" album by the band --- it's labeled "an anthology of Jeepster and Matador Extended Play singles 1997-2001" in the booklet --- but it's still an insanely good collection of songs. I don't know enough about the history of the group, and I wasn't listening to them when these old EPs were first released, but it's great to have all this stuff together on two discs. It's very impressive how consistently good these songs are. I don't think this band CAN write a bad tune.
