Immigrant really know how to house their records. This record almost counts as prepost-a-package porn. They come in hand-stitched wallets containing jewel-cased CDs which have their own hand-painted sleeve with individual photographs, handwritten track lists, incense sticks. Lovely stuff. The music contained within is lovely too. Home made melancholic singer songwriter stuff, this is a 20 track retrospective of Immigrant's 12 year history.

Just one look at the pictures and a quick read of the description will tell you how lavish the packaging is on these very very limited cds. They truly look stunning and we have EXCLUSIVE on them AND there are only 35 copies for the whole known universe. Instead of blathering on and on about how great they look I’m here to tell you a bit about the music which comes out of the speakers once you pop the cd in the player. What we have is hushed folky acoustic stuff. The vocals are so whispered you suspect they were recorded whilst someone was asleep in the next room and so give the music a delicate intimacy.
The lightly strummed acoustic guitars are combined with folky harmoniums to give a kind of seaside melancholy to the proceedings and therefore reminds me of a lot of the lesser known stuff on Fence records. The album is actually a ‘best of’ the first eleven years of Graeme McNab’s music making and so is as good a place to start as any. In any case you really need this in order to let your eyes luxuriate in how the things look.
