With a name like Gengahr, they should probably be a death metal band who don't hold back on the growls -- but they actually craft squeaky-clean indie rock fashioned after newer Modest Mouse and the clean-guitars of the National, among other artists who like to make sure their melodies are clarified. This 7" consists of two new tracks from the band, "Poweder" and "Bathed In Light".

Wannabe indie rock spooks Gengahr keep their listener at arms length with faraway acoustics and a flurry of chords thrown your way like a strong gust of wind. "Powder" weaves its way through placating guitar riffs and the sound of hands sliding down the frets, which are articulated pretty loudly in the mix, like a breath of fresh air. It's an impossibly pleasant listen, especially when you take into account the sweet vocal pitch of Felix Bushe, who sounds like the vocalist from Tame Impala taken out of the cosmic world and put into a gritty drama.
B-side "Bathed In Light" takes the same tack as "Powder", centred around Bushe's coo of innocence and a revolving cast of small joys: guitars doing a disappearing act, lilting harmonies and a prominent bit of bass, which allows a groove to permeate amidst the pretty stargazing. About half way through some organ-mode synth crashes into the song and lights up the good night Bushe and co. are having. It's a good time, basically -- though you might get sleepy and decide to head home.

Side A - Powder bursts into a colourful room of lyrics that bounce off the back drum beat and smoothly ease into a friendly guitar riff. The chorus is repeated one time too many however the vocals remain exotic enough for the listener to repeat and enjoy the track.
Side B - Bathed In Light follows an ever so slightly darker tone with the light guitar and drum beat building up mid tempo to a echoed, psychedelic chorus that stays true to the direction of Powder; it is equally matched with verses in which the listener can repeat immediately. Put together it is an experience almost enough to convince you are floating just above ground and swaying with the waves on a island somewhere.

Great new Band from London! Saw them as support for alt-J in Munich. The four piece have a created a unique sound with the singers high voice and guitars using delay on every track. I love the atmosphere, their songs create - some fine piece of psych rock. Their great, clean sound and man, i love those guitars! Not undeserved one of the most promising bands in 2015, as mentioned by NME. After their first song "Fill my Gums with Blood", which reminded me of early alt-J, their debut single "Powder" is even better, harder and shows the bands great potential!
