Islands Of Light (as well as rhyming with Angel Delight) is the is the work of Vienna-based artist Dino Spiluttini. Best known for sharing the 'bill' on a recent split release with Nils Quak he also runs the Beatismurder label and co-founded Total Light records.
He's done drone type stuff before but this time he's at the piano making a really tender and rustic sound, perfect for this time of year (autumn), as the days grow cold. A quiet fragile album to seep into winter with.

Vienna's Dino Spiluttini is something of a modern day renaissance man; a designer, illustrator and photographer, he also runs one and a half record labels, releases "irreverent drone" under his own name, and has somehow still found time to craft this subtle and relaxing CD of manipulated pianos and drones as Islands Of Light. There's a man who likes to keep himself busy.
It's a gorgeous listen, going from graceful Nils Frahm-ish piano twinklings accompanied by only the subtlest ambient undertow on tracks like 'Goerde' and 'Boris', to glassy drones where the piano (if that is where the sounds originated) is stretched into elegant sheets of tone, through to the more awkward and percussive 'Muemmelmannsberg' which has loops of percussive clatter making a skeletal framework around some surprisingly lively piano touches. It's an intriguing, heartstring-tugging, classy and often mysterious collection of subtle tone poems which play around with variations on that poetic sadness that is one man playing a piano slowly.
