20-diam. Sons of Melancholia - Beauty is Imperfection CD Sons of Melancholia is a new project of David Nizet aka Ozka. The music is a mixture of harsh metallic percussive elements, abrasive sounds and breathtaking moody strings and pads. The clash of these elements makes this album so special. For fans of early Autechre and 90’s IDM music such as Beaumont Hannant, Stasis, Likemind and B12 but with a modern sound approach.

8/10 Laurie Staff review, 27 August 2014
90s IDM revival is arguably one of the only acceptable forms of 90s revival - sorry S Club. It is even more acceptable when it is as well executed as this, with a healthy amount of originality but with some real vintage sounding synth programming. Previously releasing more dub techno-orientated music under the alias Ozka, David Nizet instead focuses his Belgian concoction towards cloudy Boards of Canada pads, cycles of pitched percussion and white noise specks. Nizet takes heavy influence from the ambient/glitch days of yore, including the skeletal remains of jungle rhythm, laid bare on 'Stratoz', and the frantic pace of Autechre. Finish this off with some more modern bass music ('Numbers Have no Soul' and the abrasive 'No Static at All') and, ahem, melancholic harmonies reminiscent of Plaid and you have a record that bursts with atmosphere.
The most enticing element here though is the graininess that hangs over every click, clack and synth swoon, giving the impression of broken music. 'Beauty is Imperfection' is, somewhat ironically, the perfect name for this album. If you're a fan of broken music too, you'll want to check this beauty out.
