Aeolipile is comprised of three voluntarily underground noisemakers: elusive tape hiss lover Jason Williams playing sax, bassist Tom Roberts and jazz doom maverick Andy Pyne on drums. They play some sort of... genre, but we're not supposed to know what it is. They call it free-jazz, but they might be lying: whatever it is, it's rather chaotic. Would you have it any other way?

Here's another of those Foolproof Projects 7"s. This one's by Aeolipile, the drums/bass/sax trio of Andy Pyne, Tom Roberts and Jason Williams, who play a delightfully abrasive rock-influenced take on free jazz. The bass is distorted and middy and gnarled, the drums pound chaotically and Williams's sax squeaks heavenward with a wild-eyed physicality.
'Glut' on side A is particularly wild, a dense slab of speedy string-bothering and hypermobile squawks with a driving, pummelling determination, eventually flopping exhausted into breathless drones, feedback and fretbuzz. Things are marginally more restrained on 'Paused Pregnancy' overleaf with a much less distorted bass sound and some more percussive sax abuse but it's still pretty in-your-face. For those who like their free jazz noisy and aggressive.
